UberExercise — A Complete Video Guide To The Overhead Press

The overhead press (OHP) is arguably one of the best upper body movements you can perform. Not only does it target the shoulders, but it also hits the upper chest, back, and arms, as well as the core. Because the OHP is performed standing, it requires immense core stability in order to derive power and complete.

Aside from being an excellent compound movement that works numerous muscles, the overhead press is also a very functional movement — it will help you lift objects over your head. You might say that seems a bit silly, but the next time you have to lift a heavy box onto the top shelf of your storage unit, you’ll be glad you’ve mastered the overhead press.

At its core, the overhead press consists of exactly what you would expect — pressing a barbell overhead. Seems fundamental enough, right? Well, as always, the answer is not quite that simple.

I’ve put together a comprehensive video that goes into all aspects of the lift, including everything from a proper warm up and mobility work, to form, all the way to common errors and how to avoid them. Enjoy.
