The Coke Effect: What Happens In Your Body After Chugging A Can Of Coke [Infographic]

Pssssssssh, how bad can an itty, bitty 140 calories really be?

Not that it’s mind-blowing whatsoever—we’ve been hating on soda hardcore for years—but if that 140 comes straight from a can of Coke, well, it’s REALLY EFFING BAD (and BTW, the same goes for Pepsi, Mountain Dew, and every other soda variety).

To illustrate the insidious domino effect, The Renegade Pharmacist put together a handy infographic that details precisely what goes down in the body during the first 60 minutes after Coke consumption.

It’s not pretty.

Key point for you to remember: after chugging, Coke immediately sets off a vicious chain reaction. A massive waterfall of sugar—39g deep—ensues, hits the bloodstream, and quickly spikes insulin levels, which directly triggers fat storage.

You’re actively making yourself fatter with every single Coke you drink. Plus, it leeches calcium and destroys bones.

Soda is the closest thing to poison that you’re legally putting in your body on a daily basis. STOP IT. ASAP. And that goes for Diet Coke, too.

    Hi Bryan!
I just found your website and I already love it! I can tell everything here is so effective, and thank you for posting this article! I’ve always been a NO-soda person but this year especially I’ve been slacking off and going along with eating junk foods (not all the time; maybe like a once a week thing). This made me realize how bad soda can be!
And also- I have some questions for you. I’m a 15 year old girl, I’m 5″3 and I weight about 128 pounds. I usually eat healthy but I’ve been slacking off this summer because I had to travel places (i know that’s not an excuse). I’ve been trying to get more defined abs for a year now and I can’t find anything that works; I don’t have access to a gym and I try to do my workouts at home with rarely any equipment as possible but I can’t find any way to shed the fat covering my stomach and get more abs?
I follow the right exercises for the ab portion of my program- I vary, do them about 3 times a week, and the other days I focus on HIIT and strength training (although it’s really slight and not that intense).
Any advice on how I can get this accomplished? Thank you so much for your time!
