[Report] Jif Launches Almond Butter & Cashew Butter; It’s Still Horribly Unhealthy And Loaded With Trans Fat
As far as I’m concerned, Jif doesn’t make peanut butter; it mass-produces synthetic, chemically engineered sludge. It’s one of the reasons why nut butters still manage to pull off a bad reputation, despite the fact that they’re oozing with healthy fats, protein, fiber, magnesium, phosphorus, and manganese.
Now Jif is torpedoing straight into one of the darlings of the nutrition world, almond butter, ready to unleash its heart-rotting trans fat fury. Here’s what’s in it, from the Jif website:1
Jif Almond Butter Ingredients: Roasted Almonds, Sugar, Contains 2% Or Less Of: Hydrogenated Vegetable Oils (Rapeseed, Cottonseed, & Soybean), Sunflower Oil, Salt.
Don’t fall for the facade. All almond butter is NOT created equal. In this despicable form — the kind loaded with hydrogenated oils (trans fats) and added sugar — it’s inedible and doesn’t belong anywhere near your body. Spend the money and splurge on traditional almond butter; the kind where the only ingredients are almonds, a dash of salt, and potentially healthy oils.
It’s honestly insulting that Jif is still trying to sell this crap in 2013.
I like Justin’s original, whatever’s on sale and natural at the grocery store, or just make your own. Seriously, it’s beyond simple and a lot cheaper; all you need are almonds and a food processor.
