[Review] Forget About The Girl Scouts — Power Crunch Mint Chocolate Protein Bars Are Dangerously Delicious & Taste EXACTLY Like Thin Mints
Sorry Girl Scouts. I feel bad, I really do, but Power Crunch just one-upped you in a MASSIVE way with their new mint chocolate protein wafers bars.
They literally taste identical to Thin Mints — across the board from consistency and delicate crunch to explode-off-the-tongue refreshing mint chocolate taste — without any of the degenerative bad fats, artificial sludge, or fat-inducing sugar.
Power Crunch made a cameo at #7 in our protein bar power rankings, BUT that excludes taste. Hands down, they’re the most insatiably delicious protein bars I’ve ever had — brilliant, clean flavor; none of that chemically-induced artificial sweetener aftertaste; with a surprisingly delectable wafer-like crunch. They’re that incredible, to the point of being dangerously delicious.
It’s seriously a challenge not to ravage the entire box of creme de menthe bricks all at once. Although if you did, you’d be shot up with 13g of HQ whey protein isolate per bar. Could be worse.
Definitively, they’re the best tasting protein bars on earth. I’ll put that claim vis-a-vis any other protein bar, plus I’ll go further — they’re better than Snickers, Twix, or Mounds; smashed into one Frankensteined super-bar.
Power Crunch’s Nutritional Profile
Sure, Power Crunch bars aren’t perfect — the soy lecithin, caramel color, and saturated fat content jump off the label immediately — but they’re far more well-balanced-nutritional-powerhouse than over-processed-chemical abomination.
It all starts up front with the beyond-phenomenal sugar profile. They’re extremely low in sugar (5g per bar), laced with ZERO gut-turning sugar alcohols, and devoid of all artificial sweeteners outside of stevia. Plus the protein content comes exclusively from the pinnacle of the protein world, whey protein isolate — a high biological value, easily absorbed, highly usable form of protein; not soy, hemp, or any of the inferior variants. And if you’re low-carbing, they’ve only got 10g per serving.
Still, the saturated fat content is a BIG red flag that immediately freaks most people out. Breathe. It comes exclusively from palm kernel oil — a plant-based oil, very similar in composition to coconut oil, that contains over 50% of its fat content from lauric acid. Lauric acid is a medium-chain fatty acid (MCT or MCFA, for short) that’s easily burned off and used as energy, and may potentially boost immunity, rev metabolism, and improve body composition.123
While in-depth research on palm kernel oil specifically is non-existent, I’m personally more-than-comfortable with it given the HUGE advantages on the sugar & protein dimensions.
Don’t sweat it.
The Bottom Line on Power Crunch Bars
If you’re a mint chocolate fiend, looking for a fresh, on-the-go protein bar/meal replacement, or simply interested in dabbling with a new protein-packed, healthy indulgence, Power Crunch bars are a nutritious, muscle-constructing treat. While the protein content is a tad bit low at 13g, Power Crunch is a balanced, uber-high quality bar devoid of the artificial crap that’s stuffed into most other protein bars.
And don’t worry about the saturated fat content — it’s not of any concern from my PoV, and may potentially pack health/body comp benefits. If mint-choc isn’t your thing, they also come in 6 other insanely delicious varieties:
- Cookies & Creme
- Peanut Butter Fudge
- Peanut Butter Creme
- Triple Chocolate
- French Vanilla Creme
- Wildberry Creme
They’re available on Amazon; $14.49/box.
