Fruit & Veggies — When are They in Season? [Infographic]
If you ever hope to channel your inner Bobby Flay or Paula Dean, one thing is absolutely KEY — taking advantage of seasonality to make killer dishes (or to avoid a disgusting mess).
The reality of the culinary world is that most fruit and veggies are only “in season” for a good chunk of the year, and shouldn’t be eaten or even touched during the off months.
Case in point:
I LOVE guacamole. The green, avocado-y deliciousness seems to taste good with anything and everything, but unfortunately it’s IMPOSSIBLE to find or make during the winter, unless of course you rendezvous to Mexico.
Why? Avocados are out of season from October through March.
How do I know? I reference my ridiculously useful, minimalist culinary calendars courtesy of Chasing Delicious.
The calendars below serve as the perfect visual guide to when fruit, veggies and herbs are all in season. Use them to guide your culinary decision making — your cooking ability will instantly improve fourteen-fold (my *rough* estimate).
