NEW HALO TOP ALERT. Welcome to the official Halo Top Power Rankings.
I’ve reviewed Halo Top in the past. For the unacquainted, uninitiated, and utterly deprived, it’s an angelic brand of ice cream that packs MASSIVE flavor—and actually tastes like the real thing, creaminess and all—for only 240-360 calories PER PINT.
Aside from the minuscule calorie count, each pint also packs a whopping 24g protein and 20g fiber, with only 16-20g of sugar; all while being completely devoid of nasty artificial sweeteners and coloring (they mostly use stevia, natural flavors and ingredients, and a little bit of eggs, cream, and sugar).
Basically it’s the equivalent of a Quest Bar, except 2,319,423x more delicious.
Halo Top is one of my all-time favorite lean, dangerously delicious, frozen go-tos — especially post-workout when sugar and protein can act together productively to fuel recovery. And if you want to crush a pint in bed over Netflix, go for it, your hard work won’t spontaneously combust.
Lucky for all of us, Halo Top just unleashed 10 new explosive flavors, including Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Red Velvet, and they were generous enough to send me a treasure chest to sample personally. New flavors include:
- Oatmeal Cookie
- Sea Salt Caramel
- Peanut Butter Cup
- Chocolate Almond Crunch
- Black Cherry
- Pistachi0
- Cookies & Cream
- Red Velvet
- S’mores
- Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
To celebrate, I’ve tested each flavor thoroughly up and down (read: I devoured all of the pints), graded and reviewed each one, and built the official Halo Top Power Rankings, based on my experience as an ice cream expert and aficionado.
Rankings below. And if you’re looking to pick up any of the flavors, they should be available in Kroger and Whole Foods this week.
Enjoy.
The Halo Top Power Rankings
1. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough — 10/10
HOW. IS. THIS. POSSIBLE. Somehow, someway it tastes like actual, real life, full-blown Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream that rivals Ben & Jerry’s and other full-fat brands, but for a tiny fraction of the calories, fat, and sugar.
It’s perfectly sweet and lusciously creamy, and the cookie dough clusters are plentiful and absolutely scrumptious (bonus points for excessive cookie dough-age).
CCCD is heaven in a 360 calorie pint and the pinnacle of Halo Top’s lineup.
Nutrition: 90 calories, 3g fat, 3g fiber, 7g sugar, 6g protein
2. Oatmeal Cookie — 9.5/10
If CCCD is the best flavor, Oatmeal Cookie is my personal favorite in the new arsenal. I have a soft spot for fresh-baked gooey oatmeal cookies — Halo Top’s version basically takes that and translates it exquisitely into ice cream form.
It has an incredibly deep and accurate flavor, with rich sweetness that’s balanced out beautifully by fresh cinnamon and a subtle tsunami of raw oats mixed in. The contrast between the velvet-y creaminess, spicy cinnamon, and raw oats gives it a divine consistency that’s a pleasure to dive into.
Throw it in between two Tate’s cookies…oh myyyy god.
